Drinking in the soft hues of dawn as the day unfolds or the vibrant shades of orange, yellow, purple, and pink you see as the sun sets over the horizon, allows for a day dedicated to relaxation and reflection. Goa, while being a small state, offers a range of places where you can admire the beauty of sunrise or sunset. Listed below are some of the best places to visit for such enchanting moments:

Best Sunset Spots in Goa

Mandovi River

Experience some of the best sunsets by opting for a cruise along the Mandovi River. The cruises depart from the Santa Monica Jetty located in Panaji, North Goa. These cruises offer a host of activities as you set sail along the river and watch the majestic sunset, such as live music, small bites and refreshing drinks, traditional Goan dance performances, and DJ performances, to name a few. The crew provides the necessary safety jackets and guidelines to be followed. You may like to know that our upcoming project, Kasu Zira, is located by the River Mandovi.

Cabo de Rama

If you are located in the South of Goa, then Cabo de Rama in Canacona is the perfect spot for enjoying the panoramic views of a stunning sunset. Trek to and explore the fort at Cabo de Rama that was built on the cliff for defense in 1679 and now is in partial ruins. It also houses a chapel known as the Capela de Santo António. A walk down leads to the beach where you and your loved ones can enjoy a sunset or dine at some of the shacks and restaurants located along the cliff that act as a vantage point for an amazing sunset experience as well.

Aguada Fort

For a glimpse into Goa’s colonial past and breathtaking views of the sun setting over the horizon of Sinquerim beach, head to Aguada Fort located in Candolim. Built in the 17th century as a defense against the Marathas and the Dutch, this huge fort also houses a jail and a lighthouse while overlooking the Arabian Sea. The fort is just 15 km away from the capital city of Goa, Panaji, and is the ideal spot to explore the well-preserved ruins of the fort and indulge in a scenic sunset.

Hilltop

Hilltop, located in Vagator and overlooking the sea, is a prime destination for tourists and locals seeking a unique and magical sunset experience. With several pathways winding through the cliff, set out an hour or two before the sunset to find the perfect spot that will allow you to fully appreciate the setting sun and its surrounding landscapes. Indulge in a snack or drinks post this at the nearby cafes, restaurants, and pubs. It is also a well-known hotspot for party-goers, so if your energy permits, you can even opt to catch a sunrise post your party sessions. The sight of the sun slowly casting a golden glow over the cliff is the perfect end to a night of partying.

Best Sunrise Spots in Goa

Hollant Beach

While most beaches in Goa are known for being visited for their stunning sunsets, Hollant Beach is the only beach in Goa where you can enjoy a sunrise. The beach is uniquely positioned eastward, making enjoying a sunrise at this beach possible. Only around 8 km away from Vasco in South Goa, Hollant is a quiet fishing village with much of its old-world charm still intact. The beach boasts of shallow and calm waters making it the ideal spot to enjoy an early morning swim as the sun rises and casts beautiful hues of gold along the skies. Or you can simply indulge in a long morning walk or have a small picnic on the beach. Be sure to avoid any rocky areas, carry water to stay hydrated and towels and a change of clothes if necessary, and be mindful of the tide and its timings. The beach can be accessed easily by private or hired vehicles.

Chapora River

Nature and picturesque views go hand in hand as you attempt to catch the sunrise while kayaking over the Chapora River. Amidst lush mangroves and diverse wildlife, paddle along the tranquil river as the rays of the sun dance on the water. Choose an agency that offers experienced professionals, follows the requested guidelines, and provides life jackets and other essential safety equipment. Wear comfortable clothing for the trip and carry a towel and a fresh change of clothes for after. Alternatively, you can also choose to stay overnight in a houseboat that is anchored in the middle of the river so you can wake up to a beautiful sunrise.
