If you are planning on buying a luxury villa in Goa or are in the process of buying one, you need to start thinking about the fantastic living room that you can host your friends and family in. Planning a living room is an important part of designing the interiors of a home. This is where you will spend the most time in leisure, comfort and togetherness. If you choose to go with a modern classic interior design for your living room, here are a few tips to get you started.

What is the modern classic style?

The modern classic style is an interior design trend that blends modern and traditional styles with a hint of minimalism and simplicity.

What are the components of modern classic design styles?

Traditional:

This style has its roots in European sensibilities, it has classic details and opulent furnishing with a lot of accessories. Furnishings are lavish with ornate details and luxurious fabrics like velvet, silk, and brocade. Features also include dark-finished wood and rich colour palettes.

Modern:

Modern style refers to a broad term that consists of clean, crisp lines with a simple colour palette with the use of modern materials like metal glass, and steel. The look is sleek and simple with few accessories.

Minimalist:

Gaining popularity, this style is a simpler version of modern design. As the name suggests furnishings are simple and streamlined with neutral and airy colour palettes, and there is a strong sense of functionality with ultra-clean lines.

Modern Classic Interior Design For Your Living Room

Our villas at Kasu Vana are spread over two or three levels, with the overall design focused on taking you back in time to the charming old world yet with all the modernism and minimalism of new-aged living. If you are planning on a modern classic look for your living room, here is a great example of quiet elegance. We kept the overall decor minimal, functional, and classic at the same time.

Furniture:

Choose furniture that stands out with its simplicity and trendiness. Stay away from the extremes of ultra-modern or heavily carved furniture. Find pieces that seamlessly blend classic design and silhouettes with a fresh modern look. Opt for pieces that respect traditional design and symmetry and are balanced with a warm neutral palette. Consider colours in beige, grey, silver, dark chocolate brown, black, white, or grey-blue for sofas or accent chairs. Notice that we used a white sofa set and balanced it with accented furniture in black.

Accessories:

When combining styles, focus on accessories for definition. For example, a vase, painting, or even cushions can define the style of a room. Avoid glossy accessories. Explore statement lighting options in terms of overhead lights or table lamps. Keep curtains light or use vertical blinds. Pretty crochet table or sofa decorations bring a classic charm as would a cosy handwoven throw. A piece of modern art can accentuate your mix of modern and old-world charm. We used bold shapes with statement lighting of the living room at Kasu Vana which is eye-catching yet subdued in white. The artwork above the couch blends in with the other accessories yet stands out with its simple and unique design.

Flooring:

Keep the flooring neutral, using wood floors or neutral colour carpets. Hardwood floors are timeless, beautiful and elegant. They feel smooth, warm, and inviting. Choose a colour that contrasts well against your furniture. Textured carpets or rugs make your living room more interesting without shifting the focus of the room. At Kasu Vana we used subtle grey floors and teamed them with a patterned carpet.

Paint Colours:

The colour of your wall paint can have a huge impact on the mood of your living room. Even if you are trying for a balance between modern and classic, your living room should have a unique personality that can be soothing or statement-making. Neutral colours like beige and grey can make your living room feel more spacious. They are not only elegant and serene but also suit both modern as well as vintage decor. They look sophisticated and provide a nice backdrop for artwork. At Kasu Vana we juxtaposed the modernism of never-ending glass walls with the traditional simplicity of laterite stone. The mood of the living room turns to a bit of fantasy where the visitor feels like they are inside and outside at the same time.

As you design your living room remember that regardless of design style, what works best for you will always be most pleasing and comforting to you. Living rooms should be built for luxury, style, and comfort, we have proved that it is possible. The next time you are house-hunting and looking for luxury villas for sale in Goa pay us a visit.
