Your 11 km hike to Dudhsagar will lead you to the fifth highest waterfall in India, measured at 310 feet. As you can imagine the view is spectacular. To start your hike, catch a train to the Kulem railway station which is in the Sanguem district. This is the closest railway station to the Dudhsagar falls. From there you can hire a jeep or a taxi to take you closer to location to start your hike. The trail meanders through dense forest of the western ghats and is a delightful way to spend the day.
Another interesting day hike to waterfalls in Goa is to Netravali. It is one of the more popular hiking trails that you can attempt. Located inside the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary, there are multiple trails to choose from which are relatively easy. It takes a little over an hour from Margao to Netravali by bus or taxi. As you meander through the sanctuary, you will witness multiple waterfalls and a variety of amazing flora and fauna. The best time to visit is during the monsoon months. Most of the hikes in Goa land up at a gorgeous waterfall and Kuskem is no exception. The 12 kms long exciting day hike starts from the entry of the Cotigao wildlife sanctuary which you can get to by taxi or bus. The difficulty level is moderate and is best done during the monsoon months. Your hike will take you through dense forests with very tall trees. Expect to be surprised with sightings of various animals and reptiles.
The hike to Tambdi Surla is adventurous and exciting. It often starts from the famous 13th century Mahadev Temple that is located in the same village. The path is about 6 kms long and takes about an hour and a half. Nestled in a lush forest you can take your time navigating the interesting trail through the Bhagvan Mahavir Sanctuary. The forest is enchanting but it would be useful to take a guide along. You can get to your starting point by bus or private taxis.
